Helloindonesia.id<\/strong> – Eight strands of rope dangling in the center of the stage. Eight dancers<\/a> entered the stage area. With a sparkling songket shawl, they turned around with the shaft of the cascade. Then one by one the dancers<\/a> tied the songket scarf with the ends of the cloths. So that’s when the salilin penilin dance<\/a> began to be offered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Salilin pilin dance<\/a> is a dance<\/a> originating from the Air Bangis area, West Pasaman. This dance illustrates the cohesiveness and unity of the local community, which creates a harmonious and peaceful life. This message is symbolized by the fabric of eight strands that form a neat woven fabric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Literally, ‘salap’ means eight, according to the number of pieces of cloth used in this dance<\/a>. The number eight has its own significance for the people of West Pasaman, especially residents in the Air Bangis region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is said that the Air Bangis area was led by eight headmen, four headmen outside and four headmen in the inner area. These eight chiefs cooperate with each other so that there is a strong sense of unity among the people in the region. That sense of unity remained intact throughout the ages, through the era of Indonesia’s independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Salilin Gyre is included in the category of dance<\/a> creations developed from a Malay classical dance<\/a> called salapan dance. The similarity of the two dances can be seen from the use of 8 pieces of cloth hanging from the ceiling of the room where the dance was performed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Salapan dance itself is a dance<\/a> that tells about the harmony created in the life of the Ranah Nata community (Mandailing Natal, North Sumatra). In this dance<\/a> depicted local people consisting of 8 different ethnicities, namely Aceh, Rao, Bengkulu, Indrapura, Palembang, Bugis, Kalimantan and Minang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both of these dances<\/a> have very dynamic and complicated movement patterns because the movements of all the dancers<\/a> follow a neat weaving or braid pattern. The difference between the two dances<\/a> is in terms of accompaniment arrangements, where salapan dance originating from Mandailing Natal is performed with musical accompaniment from several different ethnicities. Apart from Mandailing Natal, Salapan dance is also found in the traditional arts of Sulawesi, Kalimantan, Bengkulu and Palembang.
