The Adityawarman Museum is located on Jalan Diponegoro No. 10 Kelurahan Belakang Tangsi, Kecamatan Padang Barat, Kota Padang. Standing in the middle of an area of \u200b\u200b2.6 hectares, the museum with a building area of \u200b\u200babout 2,855 square meters was built by taking architectural inspiration from the Bagonjong house or the gadang house which is characteristic of the traditional Minangkabau architectural style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bagonjong house itself is a stilt house with a roof mimicking the shape of a buffalo horn piled up. The number of gonjong that is on the roof of the museum itself amounts to seven shoots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The museum began to be built in 1974, as a center for the preservation of historic objects which include the Minangkabau cultural preservation, Mentawai cultural preservation, and in general the Nusantara cultural preservation. The inauguration itself was held on March 16, 1977 by the Minister of Education and Culture who was then serving, Prof. Dr. Sjarif Thayeb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 28, 1979, the museum was officially given the name ‘Adityawarman’. The name of this museum is taken from the name of one of the kings who had ruled in Minangkabau between 1347-1375 AD In historical review, King Adityawarman was one of the Minangkabau kings who came from the Majapahit nobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Raja Adityawarman himself is thought to have ruled in the same era as the historical period when Gajah Mada served as Mahapatih (1334-1364 AD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The museum has quite a variety of historical references on various aspects of Minangkabau and West Sumatra<\/a> culture. There are more than 6000 collections of cultural heritage, which are divided into 10 collection categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
