The abun dance<\/a> of fish in Bengkulu<\/a> gave birth to a tradition and culture of catching fish together using bubu, a traditional tube-shaped fishing rod made of bamboo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tradition of catching fish with traps is still commonly found in the Bengkulu<\/a> area. Usually bubu is installed in the late afternoon, and then taken back in the morning. This tradition then gave birth to a dance creation from Bengkulu<\/a> called Bubu dance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bubu dance is usually danced<\/a> by women and men with an ever-even amount. There are no fixed rules about the number of bubu dancers, considering that this dance can be danced with a larger number adjusted to the stage size.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The clothes worn by bubu dancers are Bengkulu<\/a> traditional clothes in the form of brackets with bright and contrasting colors. This outfit also features a songket cloth with gold-dominated motifs. On the head, the female dancer uses a modified siger head covering. While male dancers use songket as a head covering whose color is matched with the color of the clothes worn. Bubu dances are accompanied by music that comes from a combination of traditional and modern musical instruments, such as drums and chords combined with guitar and bass. The music that accompanies fast tempoing is adjusted to the bubu dance movements which tend to be energetic and vibrant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
