Dewi Kwan Im Temple, the Oldest temple in Belitung

Helloindonesia.id – This temple is the largest and oldest temple in Belitung Island. Every day, this temple is crowded with visitors who want to worship or travel. This is Dewi Kwan Im Vihara, a temple which is now 266 years old.

History of this Vihara

Dewi Kwan Im Vihara was first discovered in 1747. It is said that Dewi Kwan Im prayed on a rock in Kon Im, one of the biggest prayers in this monastery.

To enter this monastery, you have to climb stairs that number around 86 pieces. This monastery has three places of worship. First, Shimunyo who is near the stairs. Go up further, then you will find another place of prayer called Sitiyamuni. Go further up, then you will find the largest place of prayer in this monastery, namely Kon Im.

This monastery is always full of people who want to worship during religious holidays such as the Chinese New Year and on the day of Vesak. Visitors to the temple are not only Indonesian citizens, but also foreign tourists visiting the temple located in Burung Mandi Village. Some residents claimed, if praying and praying for wishes in this monastery can be fulfilled all his wishes.

Aside from being a place of worship, this temple also has a beautiful view of Mount Burung Mandi which is located just behind this temple. If you are lucky, you can also see a herd of monkeys coming down from the hill to find food to the monastery.
