Chopsticks, From Traditional Weapons to Competitions

Helloindonesia – Chopsticks have been known as one of the traditional weapons that are often used by the Dayak tribe in the Kalimantan region. In addition to making materials that come from nature, Chopsticks also have the advantage of having a firing accuracy of about 200 meters.

Judging from its shape, chopsticks have a round shape with a length of about 1.5 to 2 meters and a diameter of about 2-3 centimeters. Meanwhile, the types of wood used for making chopsticks are generally of the type of wood, ironwood, tabalien, plepek, and resak wood.

In Kalimantan itself, chopsticks are used as a competition event. Like at the Erau Festival, Tenggarong, East Kalimantan, there was a chopstick competition which made this festival even more festive.

The purpose of holding this chopstick competition is to preserve the culture of the Kutai and Dayak tribes that are spread throughout Kutai Kartanegara Regency.

So far, chopsticks have become a daily tradition for the indigenous people of Kalimantan. Chopping is often done by people in Kalimantan when hunting animals for food consumption, such as pigs and other animals that live in the forest.
