What Is A World Teacher’s Day ?

Teacher, one of the noble professions that is instrumental in educating this nation. Do you know if Today (05/10/2017) is the commemoration of World Teacher’s Day?
Right, every October 5, the whole country commemorates World Teacher’s Day or World Theachers’ Day. Then how is the history until that date is set as a commemoration of World Teacher’s Day?

World Teacher’s Day is celebrated every October 5 since 1994. The aim is to provide support to teachers around the world and convince them that the sustainability of future generations is determined by the teacher.

UNESCO revealed that the World Teacher’s Day represents an understanding, care and appreciation aimed at the vital role of teachers, namely transferring knowledge and building young people.

Education International (EI), a federation representing professional teaching throughout the world, believes that World Teacher’s Day must be known and celebrated throughout the world. EI also believes that the principles of the 1966 and 1997 Recommendations must be considered for implementation throughout the world.

More than one hundred countries commemorate World Teacher’s Day. Encouragement for International Education and 401 more members has contributed to the spread of this principle. Every year, EI conducts a public awareness campaign to explain the contribution of the teaching profession.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) believes that education, culture and communication are a means of building peace.

On October 5, 1994, UNESCO inaugurated World Teacher’s Day to focus on teacher contributions and achievements, and to highlight teachers’ concerns and priorities regarding education.

October 5 was chosen to commemorate World Teacher’s Day because on that date in 1966, a special intergovernmental conference had adopted UNESCO recommendations regarding the status of teachers.

In addition to the World Teacher’s Day on October 5, there are also Teacher’s Day commemorated by each country according to their historical and social background.

In Indonesia alone, the commemoration of National Teacher’s Day falls every 25 November along with the Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia Teachers’ Association (PGRI Anniversary).
