According to the choreographer, Subahi. The Petake Gerinjing dance is a creative dance that tells the story of a community in a hamlet in the Pagaralam area, South Sumatra. Who gets a punishment for not complying with existing norms and customs. The doom is illustrated by the arrival of flash floods that wiped out civilization.
“The Petake Gerinjing dance movement in the first round tells about the life of the people. Who were previously at peace. The coming of flash floods as a doom was then symbolized by a stretch of cloth that kept shaking like a wave of water. The people inside panicked and tried to kill themselves. Meanwhile, in terms of accompanying music, Petake Gerinjing dance combines local and modern musical instruments. Such instruments include kenong, dol, jimbe, organ, guitar, and occasional vocal sounds that narrate the dance.
