Getting to know Minahasa at the Pinawetengan Museum

Helloindonesia.id – Minahasa is part of the archipelago which is known to have a long history of existence. The long history of the ethnic groups that administratively inhabit the North Sulawesi region has formed a noble cultural order and has resulted in the creation of Minahasa traditional arts.

To maintain and preserve traditional Minahasa culture in the midst of popular culture, the North Sulawesi Institute of Cultural Arts Foundation in 2009 established a museum called the Pinawetengan Museum. The museum, which is located in the North Sulawesi Cultural Center Complex, is located in the Tompaso area, North Sulawesi.

The use of the name Pinawetengan is not without reason, Pinawetengan is the central point of Minahasa culture. Ari, a custodian of the Watu Pinawetengan historical site, said that Pinawetengan is considered a sacred stone for the Minahasa community, where the rocks in the Tonderukan hills are where the Minahasa ancestors sat to confer and consult.

The Pinawetengan Museum only has one main room, in that room there are various collections, such as objects from pre-historic times, ancient objects, objects from the colonial era, to objects from the post-independence era of Indonesia.

The objects in the collection of the Pinawetengan Museum include ceramics, ancient sewing machines, mopeds from the colonial era, various Minahasa traditional musical instruments, traditional clothes, kabasaran dance clothes, to various MURI record certificates and documentation.

Nancy Loan, the keeper of the museum, said that the main purpose of the Pinawetengan Museum was to maintain, preserve, and introduce more about Minahasa culture and art. So that Minahasa culture is not eroded by foreign culture, which is generally not in accordance with Indonesian culture.

Nancy hopes that the Pinawetengan Museum will be able to develop into a superior museum that will be equipped with various supporting facilities. As a museum keeper, he will be happy if the museum develops to be better, better known, and visited by the general public.

The Pinawetengan Museum is open every day from 8.30 to 16.30 in the afternoon, and to visit it is free of charge. Every Sunday or when entering vacation time, the Pinawetengan Museum always gets visits from many students from various schools in North Sulawesi
