Visitors can also experience the experience of riding the elephants to get around for a moment or take a tour for 30 minutes to 1 hour drive to the habitat of wild elephants in the Way Kambas National Park area.

Aside from being an object of ecotourism, PKG also functions as a means of breeding elephants to reduce the shrinking of their population. In addition, PKG is also seeking the return of domesticated elephants to their wild habitat. Now, there are only 20-40 elephants in Way Kambas National Park which remain in the cage, while the rest are allowed to live in the wild. At present, the total population of Sumatran elephants in Way Kambas National Park is estimated at around 200.
