Pray For Lombok | Indonesia
Our brothers and sisters in the Province of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), especially in the Lombok region and its surroundings, are still traumatized by the earthquake that occurred on Sunday (29/7) morning or about a week ago, on Sunday (5/8) again in the middle of a disaster . It was very concerning, because the earthquake shock this time was bigger than before, the death toll was more, hundreds were injured, and many buildings collapsed.
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said the number of victims killed by the earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter scale was 91 people, as many as 209 were injured, thousands of houses were damaged, and tens of thousands were displaced. Most of the victims died of being hit by a building that collapsed due to the earthquake. However, there were also those who died after falling and having a stroke while running to save themselves when the earthquake occurred.
When the Lombok 7 SR earthquake occurred, there were 10,000 people who were still displaced at various points of evacuation after the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred on 29 July 2018. The number of refugees is currently estimated to increase beyond the previous refugee number to around 20,000 people.
Then, the National SAR Agency Team (Basarnas) is also trying to evacuate around 1,000 people from the Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno tourist areas. Up to now, 358 tourists have been evacuated, consisting of 208 foreign tourists and 150 domestic tourists. The evacuation process uses ships belonging to Basarnas, the Ministry of Transportation, and the private sector. The Ministry of Transportation has deployed six ships for the evacuation process.
Based on a report by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the Mataram region became the region that suffered the most damage from the earthquake. It was noted, the intensity of reaching the 7 Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale was felt in Mataram.
In addition, the regions of Bima, Denpasar, and Karangasem suffered minor damage due to the intensity of reaching a scale of 5 to 6 MMI. This means experiencing minor damage if the construction meets earthquake safety standards. Then the areas of Waingapu, Genteng, Situbondo, and Malang experienced intensities of 2 to 3 MMI.
According to BMKG, a 7 SR tectonic earthquake that shook East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, at 18.46 WIB was the main earthquake. This type of shallow earthquake due to Flores Fault activity is generated by rock deformation with an upward movement mechanism, which is centered on coordinates 8.37 degrees South Latitude (LS) and 116.48 degrees East Longitude (BT) at a depth of 15 kilometers (km) spaced 18 km northeast of East Lombok.
Based on BMKG analysis, earthquake shocks were also felt in a number of other areas, namely Kuta IV MMI and Waingapu, Genteng, Situbondo, and Malang with intensity II to III Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI). BMKG records at least hundreds of times the earthquake has occurred with a diminishing intensity.
The current airport condition is full of passengers who will leave Lombok. There are those that are already scheduled, there are those who suddenly make ticket purchases at the location. The passengers who packed the majority of Lombok Airport were foreign tourists. Most of them want to leave Lombok towards Bali, Surabaya and Jakarta.
The NTB earthquake this time has a magnitude of 7 so that the impact of casualties and physical damage is higher than the previous earthquake. This condition requires the concentration of government and related institutions to handle it.
We also feel how sad our brothers are affected by the earthquake. We must unite to help alleviate the suffering of our affected brothers. For this reason, we must help them in all ways, including always praying for them to be steadfast in facing this disaster.
