National Day of Public Information Disclosure 30 April

Hari Keterbukaan Informasi

Every year on April 30, Indonesia commemorates the National Day of Public Information Disclosure (HAKIN). This important day reminds all elements of the nation about the people’s right. To access honest, accurate, and transparent information from public institutions. The commemoration stems from the ratification of Law Number 14 of 2008 on Public Information Disclosure. Signed on April 30, 2008, by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and officially enforced on April 30, 2010.

The Importance of Public Information Transparency

Transparency in public information is not merely a right—it is a foundation for clean and accountable governance. By ensuring openness, citizens can monitor public institutions, prevent misuse of power, and actively participate in national development.

The commemoration of HAKIN also serves as a moment of reflection for both government and non-government institutions to continuously improve the quality of public information services. Transparency goes beyond just sharing data; it means providing information that is easy to access, clear, and non-discriminatory.

The Role of the Central Information Commission

Since 2015, the Central Information Commission (Komisi Informasi Pusat) has consistently celebrated the National Day of Public Information Disclosure. The commission plays a vital role in overseeing the implementation of the law across Indonesia. Through public education, assessment of information openness indexes, and resolution of information disputes, the commission helps strengthen transparency.

Toward an Open and Democratic Indonesia

The spirit of information disclosure aligns with the goals of reform and democracy. Citizens with access to reliable information are better equipped to make decisions, evaluate policies, and engage in the direction of national progress.

Let us commemorate the National Day of Public Information Disclosure by upholding the principle that access to information is a right, not a privilege. A transparent government is key to building a just, progressive, and trustworthy Indonesia.
