Officially Inaugurated as President: Understanding Prabowo Subianto’s Educational Background
Elected President Prabowo Subianto was officially inaugurated today, alongside Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, on Sunday (October 20, 2024). Prabowo and Gibran will lead Indonesia for the next five years. To get to know the President of Indonesia for the 2024-2029 term better, let’s take a look at Prabowo Subianto’s educational background.
Prabowo Subianto Djojohadikusumo, retired TNI General, was born on October 17, 1951, as the third child and first son of Soemitro Djojohadikusumo and Dora Marie Sigar. Prabowo’s father, an economist and politician from the Indonesian Socialist Party, served as Minister of Industry and Minister of Finance.
Prabowo spent much of his childhood abroad, particularly after his father became involved in the Revolutionary Government of the Republic of Indonesia. He completed his primary and secondary education in several countries, including:
- Sumbangsih Kindergarten, Jakarta (1956-1957)
- The Dean School, Singapore (1957-1960)
- Glenealy Junior School, Hong Kong (1960-1962)
- Victoria Institute, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (1962-1964)
- Zurich International School (1964-1966)
- The American School, London, England (1966-1968)
This international experience enabled Prabowo to become fluent in several languages, including Indonesian, French, German, English, and Dutch. After his family returned to Indonesia, Prabowo continued his education at the National Military Academy (AKABRI) in Magelang from 1970 to 1974.
