The Andrea Hirata Word Museum is located on Jalan Raya Laskar Pelangi No.7, Gantong, East Belitung. The atmosphere presented by the Laskar Pelangi novel was immediately felt when setting foot in the front yard of the museum. The photos that are posted on the museum’s pages are like telling stories about the journey of literary works which is one of the Belitung people’s pride.

What is in this museum?

Enter the museum and the atmosphere is increasingly felt. In this space, photos of the author with inspirational sentences can be seen. One of them is the one that read “Dream because God hugs your dreams”. In addition, there are also excerpts from novels that have been published in various languages.

Going deeper into, visitors will be greeted with a very comfortable room, complete with a table along with books that are left scattered on the table. In this room, photographs of the Laskar Pelangi movie scene are also displayed. Laskar Pelangi covers published in various countries also adorn the walls of this space.

This main room serves as a link to rooms named after the names of characters in Laskar Pelangi. The first room is the Curl Room. In this space, visitors can see excerpts from the novel depicting the figure of Ikal. The scene photo when Ikal separated from Lintang became an interesting sight in this space. This photo was taken from a film directed by Riri Reza.

Next to the Curl Room, there is the Latitude Room. Lintang is a smart figure who is proud of her friends. In this room, visitors can see photos of Lintang figures taken from the Laskar Pelangi film. Among these are photos of Lintang on her favorite bicycle and photos of Lintang while riding a Ikal.

In addition, there is one other room which is located somewhat separate from the Cross Room and Curl Room. That room is the Mahar Room. Mahar is known as an eccentric figure who likes various forms of art. In this space, visitors can see photos of artists who inspired Mahar, one of which is Rhoma Irama.

After passing through the Mahar chamber, visitors will arrive at the Kitchen Room. In this space, visitors will see a kitchen that is turned into a coffee shop. Warkop Kopi Kuli, that is the board that is posted on the wall in this room. Here, visitors can order coffee as a friend to relax or chat to enjoy the atmosphere of the museum.

Museum History

The museum was founded by Laskar Pelangi novelist Andrea Hirata. To enter the museum which was inaugurated in November 2012, visitors are not charged an entrance fee.

The Andrea Hirata Word Museum is the first and only literary museum in Indonesia. Visiting this museum can make visitors get to know how literary works become an important part of life. From this museum, visitors can get inspiration to love literature more, both in Indonesia and abroad.
