Beruji Doll Dance, Dance Combination with Doll Play
Helloindonesia.id – If in West Sumatra there is a tradition called Tabuik, then in South Sumatra there is a tradition called Tabot. Similar to tabuik, tabot is also an activity organized in commemoration of the death of the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad in Bengkulu. Tabot ceremony is filled with various arts from Bengkulu, one of which is to test dolls. Doll testing is a musical performance that uses props in the form of drum dolls.
Physically, doll is almost similar to drum or drum. But if examined deeper, there are significant differences. The doll is made of wood or a tree trunk with a hole in the middle which is wrapped in an ox skin, while the bottom side is closed. This is what distinguishes dolls from other instruments, both physically and the sound produced.
The art of testing dolls then inspired Bengkulu dance artists to give birth to a creation claim called doll dance test. The creation of this creation becomes interesting, because it combines dance moves with the agility to play doll. The motion of the doll dance dance is also inseparable from the movements of Bengkulu traditional dances in general, such as rentak besuko, tabot wine, rare air, to fan dance. Meanwhile, the accompanying music comes from Malay music which is collaborated with the sound of a graduated doll, which is one of the sounds of a doll that illustrates excitement.
The dance with creations of dolls is performed by 5-8 women. The dancers wear Bengkulu traditional clothes that have been modified in several parts, equipped with brightly colored songket cloth at the bottom. In accordance with the purpose of its creation, doll-bearing dance is not only staged in the tabot ceremony, but can also be used as a stage to welcome guests and in other cultural events. Therefore, this dance is not only a complement, but is able to become a characteristic of Bengkulu culture.
