The tradition leading up to marriage by the Lubuk Linggau community is Mandi Kasai. The Kasai Mandi tradition is carried out by bathing a pair of lovers in a river witnessed by their friends and relatives. This tradition has two meanings, the first is a sign that a pair of bride and groom lovers will leave adolescence and enter married life. The second meaning, Mandi Kasai will cleanse the body and soul of a pair of lovers who will get married.

Mandi Kasai’s tradition later inspired the birth of dance creations from the Lubuk Linggau Regency called the Bujang Gadis dance. Denny, representative of the Lubuk Linggau Arts Council revealed, “Bujang Gadis is a contemporary dance that takes the idea of the traditional marriage tradition between single and girl in the Lubuk Linggau community. We are trying to explore old traditions that are now widely abandoned, such as Mandi Kasai is one of them. We are collaborating with the modern tradition to make it look more attractive. “

Bujang Gadis Lubuk Linggau’s wedding was staged onto the stage as a dance of creation. This creative dance is performed by men and women wearing traditional clothes that are often worn by villagers in Lubuk Linggau in their daily lives, namely clothes in brackets with subordinates of songket cloth, equipped with headgear called tanja. While from the arable music, this dance is accompanied by digital music combined with the touch of traditional musical instruments, such as drums, kromong, tambourines, and chords as the hallmark of Malay Malay music.

This creation using three background settings as a story builder. The three places are rural, river, and wedding venues. The three settings are built with the help of multimedia so that it helps the audience to understand the plot that is told in the dance.

Inspired by the unique tradition of Mandi Kasai, staging holds a deep mandate about the importance of preserving and preserving the valuable traditions of ancestral heritage. “This modernization does not mean leaving existing traditions. We want to tell, tradition is important today, never to oppose tradition, but that does not mean rejecting modernization, “Denny said then continued.
