Batik Jambi unique and awesome
Helloindonesia.id – Indonesia can be proud because batik has been designated as world cultural heritage. It is not surprising considering so many batik-producing areas in this country. The motives are different and each region has its own peculiarities. One of the batik-producing regions is Jambi.
Batik cloth was first brought and introduced in this area by Haji Muhibat in 1875. At that time, he and his family came from Central Java to settle in Jambi. At that time batik was only worn by the nobility and the Malay king of Jambi as traditional clothing. The motive is still very limited, carved patterned as in the traditional house of Jambi. But over time, more and more ordinary people who use batik and motifs that were limited to the palace were allowed to be used by people outside the palace. That made Jambi batik and its motives increasingly developed and until now it has become a home industry.
Jambi batik motifs are inspired by the environment around Jambi, such as plants and animals. Jambi batik motifs that are famous include loose flak, fungi, chicken, grapes, plate cakes, butterflies, durian flowers, taro, angsoduo, and others. The coloring was at first still using natural ingredients taken from plants in the forests around Jambi. This natural dye produces a distinctive color that is charming and different from chemical dyes. For example, sepang wood produces a reddish yellow color, ramelang wood produces a brownish red color, lambato wood produces a yellow color, and nilo wood produces a blue color.
Jambi batik production is concentrated in the village of Jambi Seberang, home to the original inhabitants of Jambi. In this place, there is a batik studio that serves as a center for Jambi batik craftsmen. Its production consists of two types, namely written batik and printed batik. The fabric used is usually made of silk and cotton.
